Who I Am

Hello friend!

I am so very glad you are here. My name is Kelly Wagner (she/her), founder of Aspen Ally Natural Medicine. I am a licensed naturopathic physician (ND) in the state of Vermont with a focus on mental health as well as complex chronic health conditions. I am a queer-identified practitioner and always strive to offer a safe space for my patients to be their authentic selves! My goal as an ND is to always understand the root cause(s) of a person’s struggles. A root cause approach is the “why”. It is my absolute firm belief that the why is crucial to helping someone transform their experience along their health journey to truly make lasting positive changes.

My Story

At the very worst part of my health journey, in my mid 20's, I was definitely not thriving, I was 100% surviving. I had terrible insomnia, had frequent stomachaches and constipation and my doctor kept telling me I had high blood pressure (whattttt?!?). I was exhausted, depressed and anxious all the time, had awful PMS and irregular menstrual cycles. I was taking an antidepressant (the only solution I was offered at that time besides oral birth control and blood pressure lowering medication!) that did not seem to be working, nor did I really want to be taking them. I was beyond frustrated but also didn't know what else to do. I, like probably many of you out there, believed that if my doctor had other options/ideas/approaches to help me feel better, that they would talk with me about them. I didn’t think to question them or even know what kinds of questions to ask and often left their office feeling alone and misunderstood.

My health issues were affecting my relationships and holding me back in many areas of my life at that time. I was miserable and I did not believe that it was possible to ever feel any differently.

Finally, my conventional medical doctor (PCP) recommended I see a naturopath. I did not know much about this type of doctor at the time, but this pivot in my health care is what truly changed everything for me. It was what eventually led me to this profession and it was one of the best decisions I have ever made.

This naturopathic doctor took a thorough history from me, taking the time to really try to understand how I got to where I was. They helped me to understand what was going on and provided an action plan for helping me feel better! I started to feel hopeful again.

I was so thrilled with finally seeing positive changes to my health that I decided that I wanted to pursue this as a career and share this amazing medicine with others. I always knew I wanted to be in a helping profession and already had interests and other work experiences in medicine, social work and nutrition. Naturopathic medicine was the way to put it all together for me. It finally all made sense!

So I entered a post-baccalaureate program to finish any remaining pre-requisite classes I needed and applied to a fully accredited naturopathic degree program out west. Once I finished my degree, I returned to Vermont to complete a 1 year residency program in primary care. I have had the privilege of practicing as a primary care physician in VT for 9 years until establishing my own practice so that I could specialize and focus on the areas of medicine that I feel most passionate about.

Should you choose to work with me, know that I will always be on your team, work hard to listen and help guide you toward the healthy life you want and deserve!
